I'm the gmailieer, aka lieer, maintainer. Yes, please upgrade this!
Lieer is assuming the 2.x version (well, 1.8 or above) of the python google auth library, with the to_json method. There isn't much I can do to fix lieer until this package is upgraded. (See also #1053227)
