I agree this would be nice. But Liferea uses gtkmozembed for rendering
and in most version this has a focussing bug which causes the HTML
widget to be focussed always. As a effect the <Space> key will always be
used for the HTML widget. The default Mozilla binding is page-down.

So currently you need to use a modifier to workaround it. You can
configure it in the preferences. But basically the feature is
implemented as you wish.
