Stupid question maybe: did you restart liferea since the upgrade?

The liferea window is divided into 3 parts:
  1) the list of all my feeds
  2) the list of all news items in the selected feed
  3) the content a news item

Usually, when selecting a news item in 2, it gets shown in 3.

Agreed (I use liferea myself).

Since the upgrade, window 3 remains gray and does not show.

It works for me. So, what could be different (non-default) in your environment?
