No. At least it does not show up with ps -aux.
If I try to start the daemon by hand, it segfaults right away:
        $ /usr/lib/gnome-vfs-2.0/gnome-vfs-daemon
        Segmentation fault

Yes. I tried to log in with a different account that was created for
testing purposes only and got the same results.
I also tried a different kernel (linux-image-2.6.16-1-k7 rather than the
self compiled, moduleless 2.6.15 I normaly use) --- Still got the same
reaction.
