I've taken a stab at compiling the new version, and unfortunately it needs a piece of software that's not available in Debian, and hasn't even been uploaded to NEW (ec-fonts-mftraced). It also asks for mftrace >= 1.1.1, although that seems to be "optional". ec-fonts-mftraced seems to be closely related to Lilypond, so I guess that it should be maintained alongside it.
I think that the packaging I created should be more-or-less correct aside from that, but obviously I don't know for sure since I can't test it.
