That would indeed be an interesting test. I'm not (so) sure whether it's a good idea to keep this patch as it was proposed in 2021-04-06 and NOT accepted. Rework was requested (i.e. implement it in phy-uclass) and while the submitter initially said they'd try, they later backed out of it. That was > 18 months ago, so I guess it's safe to assume that won't happen. Which means it has become a 'Debian only' patch and I don't think that's wise as it could interfere with what upstream expects to happen based on their code. My 0.02
