i'm aware of this problem and have been trying to brainstorm a
fix in the way that makes the most sense. what's happening is
that with psql it's defaulting to attempting to connect as
the "database user" using a local unix account and ident.
i think this is a pretty poor default and may change it.
the real fix wil be for the packager to provide the
proper default as a variable to set before calling dbc_go,
i just haven't decided yet how to do that :)

also, i think postgres 8.0 may have other problems as well. i believe
that martin pitt (the postgres maintainer) has recommended folks who
need 8.x features to use 8.1, and is removing 8.0 from etch/sid.

for now, try reconfiguring debconf to run with priority: low.
eventually i'll have a better system for determining priorities
for dbconfig's debconf questions relating to remote hosts; for example,
prompting once for all installations whether it's likely that the system
will be used for connecting to remote hosts, and if so raising the
priority of the questions.
