No problem! I just wanted to clarify something else. The uidmap package is installed by default on Debian 12, at least it was for me. However, I encountered an issue when testing Distrobox on MX Linux 23 RC2. MX Linux uses Debian's repositories, but it seems that they don't install uidmap by default like Debian 12 does. I discovered this when I installed Distrobox on MX Linux and tried to create a container. That's when I encountered the newidmap error and realized it was because MX Linux didn't have uidmap installed, and Distrobox didn't list it as a dependency.
I reported it to the MX Linux devs and they suggested I file a report.
