No, but looking at /usr/share/doc/shared-mime-info/changelog.gz, the
latest entry regarding java dates back to 2004-11-26. I would match that
to the date in changelog.Debian and then take this version number.

Gnome still reads data from /usr/share/control-center-2.0/capplets/, but
it's not recommended anymore. Using the fd.o menu specification [1] is
better because other desktops will benefit from it (without regressions
on the Gnome side. Putting the *.desktop files into
/usr/share/applications will still make them show up in the
gnome-control-center)
