Hi Tim, thanks for tracking this down and the detailed description.I already have a fix to not use rpm at all on Debian based systems (mainly because it creates an empty unused rpm database), but that was a bit too late for being included in bookworm (right now available in experimental). I'll try to reproduce your issue and make dkms fail with a meaningful error message on empty $arch.
