I'm intending to to salvage libconfig. If you are unaware of the ITS procedure, see [1] for details. Eligibility for ITS: [2] There is no visible maintainer acitvity on the package since 2017, the package is NMU maintained since 2015 (currently 4 NMUs in a row) One of my packages (where I'm upstream of too) could benefit from an updated libconfig, for which a wishlist bug exists since 2017 (#869596), other users have also asked for an update in that bug, so others would be happy to if there is a new versio in Debian. Upstream fixed the SONAME problem mentioned in your reply to #869596 and has released fixed versions (currently 1.7.3, released July 2021).
