For the benefit of the BTS, I asked whether backporting the upstream fix would be sufficient. That seems to be the case, and I've suggested exploring whether going with 0.8.1-1+deb12u1 via testing-proposed-updates would make sense (given 0.8.3-1's being in unstable).
