Bastian,

This setting was also present in the upstream source.  I would also
like to inform them about the problem.  Can you please point me to a
concrete example of an arch and kernel/libc version in which this will
actually cause a problem?

I will go ahead and remove it from the Debian packages, but must admit
that I don't really understand the problem.
