live-build also fails in the same way with "sid", and also fails installing a "basic" ISO, i.e. without all the packages that I install ; you can run my script with ~/eclipse-workspace/screensavers/bin/do_oi basic bookworm to attempt this. If you run the script with ~/eclipse-workspace/screensavers/bin/do_oi basic bullseye it will succeed in making an ISO with files from the bullseye release.
This line ln: failed to create symbolic link '/etc/mtab': File exists from near the end of each failing log indicates what is wrong, but doesn't show me how to fix the problem. I have added log files from more runs in http://tjcw.freeshell.org/live-build/ showing the failures when I try to package anything based on bookworm or sid. Chris Ward
