severity 1029752 normal
thanks

to expand on this issue a little: the autopkgtest is legitimately
indicating a regression in nmh, where a set-but-empty $HOME
is treated differnt (= as fatal exception) from an unset $HOME variable.

this has triggered a long discussion on upstream's mailing list
about the desirable/least-surprising behaviour.

stephen's already adjusted xlbiff's behaviour for greater robustness
in a pending release.

for consistency i've also addressed this in nmh version 1.8~RC2-2,
which falls back to getpw*() for both set-but-empty and unset $HOME.

regards
az
