Most of that information is either duplicated in the > certbot.1 manpage, or is really for plugin developers rather than > actual users. What motivated me was interest in documenting this: ${webroot-path}/.well-known/acme-challenge I did just pester the certbot people into including that in certbot(1). But it has been helpful in the past to know more about the protocol and details about choices, whether for validation or whatever. I don't find the writing in certbot(1) to always be entirely clear or comprehensive. (Some recent critique of random bits regarding webroot at: https://community.letsencrypt.org/t/please-document-the-webroot-well-known-request-path/191024/9 ) It can be helpful to have prose to look at and disk is cheap.
