The problem was that I had used some random tool to obtain an orig,
rather than using "dgit fetch" to get the actual orig you were using.
Possibly origtargz which, emprically, does something involving uscan.
Anyway, with the .orig from the archive, it all does what I expect.
I need to tidy things up and write a test case, but the fix will be in
the next upload.
