The original reason for this was that if you use LDAP for host name
lookups having a host name in nslcd.conf causes problems.

I think that is reasonably uncommon and agree that the host name would
make more sense to provide as a suggestion. This behaviour will be
changed in the next upload (uploads are not very frequent).
