Now I see what happened. I tried to do this in Ubuntu 22.04, which failed due to being stuck at 1.4.0+ds1-6. I came to Sid to check the version, saw 1.4.0, and assumed the feature was still not present. It had not occurred to me that the feature might have been backported to 1.4.0+ds1-7.
Either upgrading to Ubuntu 22.10 or manually backporting 1.4.0+ds1-7 to Ubuntu 22.04 should be sufficient for my needs. Thanks.
