I've pushed packaging for 1.8.2 to salsa [1]. I don't presently have a testing/unstable system to test this with, (and I wasn't able to trivially backport 1.2.1), so I can only confirm it works on 1.0.2-4 and 1.1.2-3~bpo11+1.
