Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

I intend to orphan the geneweb source package, a 24 year old genealogy
software with web interface.

I don't have the time to make the required major changes to the package,
but I would be pleased to help the new maintainer to ease the transition.
Also, Debian developer Sébastien Villemot <sebast...@debian.org>, which was
my sponsor for the uploads over the years, told me that he would accept to
continue in his role if the new maintainer is not a Debian developer.

Upstream repo : https://github.com/geneweb/geneweb

The current geneweb package (6.08+git20181019+dfsg-3) is no longer
buildable (FTBFS) with the current camlp5 version in testing (see bug
#1002979). Therefore the first task of the new maintainer will be to
migrate to geneweb 7 (latest formal release :
https://github.com/geneweb/geneweb/releases/tag/v7.0.0, see #986285). Since
the database format is changing with major version 7 (with the addition of
personal and family "events"), all user databases would have to be saved in
.gw format first, ideally with a maintainer script.

Also :
- The sub-folder structure of geneweb 7 is totally different. All the
scripts and patches must be reworked or rethinked accordingly.
- The daemon scripts for geneweb and gwsetup would probably need to be
rewritten or rethinked for systemd.
- The binary package geneweb-gui which is no longer available upstream will
have to be removed (#953367, #967383)

Do not hesitate to contact me if you need additional information.

With best regards,
