That's the same what we already have the other way round...
Plus, you'd need to patch it upstream and not just in Debian, otherwise people
would find the upstream version all over Google, and not realise, that this is
likely far less relevant for them.
Also, it wouldn't change anything else of what it wrote before, about
cryptsetup's crypttab manpage being typically much more relevant for debian
users, much closer, to upstream, etc..
Why exactly should cryptsetup's manpage step back, if that's still well
maintained, more powerful and what's most probably more relevant for Debian
dm-crypt users?
Just because some other distros do it different doesn't seem a good reason
(while all Debian-based don't) , because Debian should probably do what's most
relevant for its users.
Wouldn't be an option to rename the manpage upstream at systemd?
Seems to me that this would fit much better in usual systemd convention of
naming most manpages systemd-* or systemd.*?
Since systemd is not cryptsetup, that would seem a much more natural choice.
To my best knowledge, Debian's cryptsetup was first in having crypttab (the
oldest reference I've found is 16 years old, while systemd was only startet
some 10 years or so ago). So it rather belongs there and systemd should have
taken care not to create incompatibilities.
Again, if Debian's cryptsetup/tab would be unmaintained... or far less
important... sure, but since neither is the case, it would seem impolite to me
if systemd insisted on its position (not that I'd imply that it would actually
do so), just because they're overall bigger.
At least IMHO at best cryptsetup upstream could really "claim" the manpage
under having a higher precedence.
But I guess Milan would then take care not to become incompatible with the
pre-existing crypttab of Debian.
Anyway, these were just my thoughts an in the end Jonas /Guilhem will
decide.... and I'm actually off for some diving expedition (i.e. its not meant
as rudeness if I don't answer anymore for a few weeks).
Best wishes,
Chris.
