Sorry it seems I totally missed this bug report. I couldn't reproduce the bug on my systems even on a clean virtual machine installation.
I found one vaguely related upstream issue[0] but it doesn't mention libfreetype so I don't think it's relevant to that case. Are you exporting the original PDF or with page-by-page processing? Does it fail with both export methods? Does it fail to export with any document? If not, do you have any document that fails to export that you can publicly share?
