In a recent thread on debian-mentors, an even cleaner way to conditionally exclude a missing symbol for given architectures was mentioned at [1], with details described in deb-src-symbols(5). As that seems to be the most elegant way to handle this, I've pushed up my commit to the lxc repo and this bug should be closed out with the next upload.
