I should also mention that it’s important that tootle uses the XDG_CONFIG_HOME variable when referencing the config file. If not, and the config file path is hardcoded to include a directory that the user has converted into a symbolic link (e.g. ~/.config/), that’s one scenario that will break access to that file within a firejail environment. So in short, it’s still feasible that there is a tootle bug here. Certainly the man page should specify whether the XDG_CONFIG_HOME variable is used and otherwise how the user can control the path to the config file.
