If ata-piix is not loaded, ide-generic nicely handles both the hard-drive and the CD on IBM Thinkpad T43, so my system is not entirely SATA in this sense, and inability of libata to handle ATAPI is not a show-stopper for this system. In fact I have custom kernel running on the system that *does not* enable ATAPI support in libata and handles the CD by ide-generic while hard-drive is handled by ata-piix. > and: http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/SataAtapiHowto Yes, enabling ATAPI support in libata does allow the installer to see the CD, but that's not the right thing to do for given hardware and given kernel as ide-generic does support the CD nicely, and ATAPI support in the current libata indeed has all kinds of problems. > Closing your report as this is a known issue.
