I've tried dropping the patch and things weren't looking well. Yes, this seems to have been fixed in 3.0 releases, but this bug is about 2.2. So I think it would seem reasonable to include the patch in Debian without any effort to upstreaming it as 2.2 likely is in maintenance mode already. Helmut
