The 'fixps' program fails when performing a full GS rewrite due to
$ grep pswrite /usr/bin/fixps
$gs -q -dSAFER -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -sDEVICE=pswrite
-sOutputFile=- -c save pop -f $file ;;
which needs to be 'ps2write' not 'pswrite'. See:
