Ok, the problem seems to be with ucf.

I agree, should I open new bug against ucf package instead of
bothering you with this problem?

Well I am reassigning this bug to ucf in the hope the package maintainer understand what happens here. If the problem is really on lm-sensors side, please fill free to reassign the bug there.

Could you please to run as root:
'ucf -v --debconf-ok --three-way /usr/share/lm-sensors/sensors.conf.eg
/etc/sensors.conf'

siptel01:~# ucf -v -p /etc/sensors.conf; echo $?
ucf: The Destination file is /etc/sensors.conf
ucf: is /tmp
1

On my computer I get:

ucf: The Destination file is /etc/sensors.conf
ucf: is /tmp
ucf: The State directory is /var/lib/ucf
The hash file exists
egrep [[:space:]]/etc/sensors.conf$ /var/lib/ucf/hashfile
06fcacb3558aa4703560e1e1be06f379 /etc/sensors.conf
Preparing to purge /etc/sensors.conf
egrep -v [[:space:]]/etc/sensors.conf$ /var/lib/ucf/hashfile
The cache file is :etc:sensors.conf

siptel01:~# ucf -v --debconf-ok --three-way
/usr/share/lm-sensors/sensors.conf.eg /etc/sensors.conf; echo $?
ucf: The new file is /usr/share/lm-sensors/sensors.conf.eg
ucf: The Destination file is /etc/sensors.conf
ucf: The Source directory is /usr/share/lm-sensors

On my computer I get:

ucf: The new file is /usr/share/lm-sensors/sensors.conf.eg
ucf: The Destination file is /etc/sensors.conf
ucf: The Source directory is /usr/share/lm-sensors
ucf: The State directory is /var/lib/ucf

md5sums match, nothing needs be done.
