So, I found the problem. Under the fr_CA locale su spits a strange char in the authentication failure message: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/src/gksu/gksu/trunk$ env LANG=fr_CA su Password: su�: Authentication failure This <?> is a "special" space in iso8859-15; I am not sure this space should even exist and it will certainly break gksu.
