I have looked meanwhile several times into registering a IANA media type,
but found the process to be quite un-understandable - and definitely not an interesting
experience, it's more an administrative nightmare to me.
I have simply given up on trying to understand the various requirements for the
registration.
All that is required of the debian team is to add 1 extension to an existing
line in a file they distribute.
This is far less effort and will solve the problem adequately.
