I also noticed dumbed down behavior at many sites (including amazon.com) after recent firefox upgrades. Earlier versions of 1.5.0.1 had a useragent string that contained "Gecko/20060313" while the useragent string in the current debian version only contains "Gecko" with no date. Manually adding the date back in /usr/share/firefox/defaults/pref/vendor.js corrects this behavior.
