As already mentioned, I use a version of Firefox downloaded from
www.mozilla.org and at the moment I can't replace it with the one
available in the repositories because if I do it then it doesn't read
the user profile and I have to reconfigure everything, which I don't
want to do.
I would like to install LibreOffice Help to use it offline but if I do
it then forced me to install Firefox-ESR, which for me would be a
duplicate I don't need.
It would be interesting if the package manager could install Firefox-ESR
only if it don't finds other browsers available in the system (in my
case: /etc/alternatives/x-www-browser -> /opt/firefox/firefox).

Why? It's doing that it is intended to do.
If I try to install the LibreOffice help, the Firefox-esr package is
automatically installed.
That is not new. That is there since ~ 3.5 years...
Just because it is the first alternative. As the reportbug info you
posted said itself:
pn firefox-esr | epiphany-browser | konqueror | chromium | fire <none>
firefox-esr OR epiphany-browser OR konqueror OR chromium OR firefox
(thought that list probably should be reordered?)
Why is this? Becuase the help DOES need a X (well,
JavaScript-capable, and the nongui browsers can't) browser. Without
that there would be an error (or even worse: nothing happen) when
opening the help.
One might argue it can be a Recommends: (then only people who don't
install recommends per default don't get it, but....)

Rene
