OK, this solves the problem. I didn't remember that option (it is
quite new, I suppose). The error message was just:

Setting up autofs (4.1.3+4.1.4beta2-3) ...
Stopping automounter:dpkg: error processing autofs (--configure):
 subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

If the script could recall this option, it would be fine.
Alternatively, it could ask the user if he wants autofs to be regarded
as configured (just as if this option were set for this upgrade only)
or if the script should return an error.

Also, if the fact that autofs was in used could be detected even
earlier, so that no attempt to upgrade autofs is performed, this
would also be an interesting solution (in the case a new version
could lead to problems when autofs can't be restarted).
