Hi Noah and ticket participants,

I've been recently getting the

    Cannot open file
/var/lib/spamassassin/3.004002/updates_spamassassin_org/1896304.tar.gz: No such
file or directory at /usr/bin/sa-update line 1600.

error from cron.

Since you wrote:

I believe that the fix from
https://svn.apache.org/viewvc/spamassassin/branches/3.4/sa-update.raw?r1=1842326&r2=1842325&pathrev=1842326
should be sufficient and easily backportable.

please allow me to ask: is there a particular reason why you don't publish a package with the patch applied? This is not meant as a critique or application of pressure but as a attempt to understand.

* is there a need to test the patch and report back on whether it works?
* is it that you do not want to do the work to release an updated package
(which is completely legitimate to me). In which case would it be OK if
somebody else pushed (NMU...) a patched version?

For context: I certainly can patch my local spamassassin version however I guess it'd be more helpful, if all users of spamassasin would get the fix.

That said, my system is still running oldstable, so maybe it's just not worth the effort and the better path forward is just to upgrade to the bullseye...

Thanks a lot!!! (And I wish everybody nice holiday and soon a happy and good new year!)
