The position issues were fixed upstream in 1.13.1: * #826: Fix save/restore position issues with tray icon
Upstream is discussing how best to handle the tray icon going forward, since GtkStatusIcon is deprecated (and doesn't work in latest GNOME on Bullseye whatsoever.)
Likely we'll move to Ayatana Indicators; an investigation is ongoing. Unfortunately the "activate" behavior described in the original issue is no more with Ayatana; a context menu is standard.
