Package: autofs
Version: 4.1.4-6
Severity: important

We are starting to see severe automount problems on 4 way and 8 way
machines. The error messages in the log are similar to bug #316378, but
unlike this other bug we are not using indirect automounts. There is an
interesting thread on the autofs mailing list:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg04644.html

where they are discussing locking issues with autofs and whether they
should be performing locking at all. We have not observed these
problems on uni-processor or dual-processor machines. The problem is
exacerbated when running a 64 bit environment, the machine is barely
usable in this case.

I'm going to try and back down to the 4.1.3 version of autofs, to see if
our issues go away as suggested in the kernel thread above.

Thanks!

Mark
