Package: aptitude Version: 0.4.1-1 Severity: wishlist
Excellent improvements made to this utility since version 4.0+ release. The only missing feature, it seems, would be the capability to display the cause of broken packages listed byexecuting aptitude search ~b. At present, I've found the easiest/speediest way of determining this is by doing a: ·· $ apt-get install -f <package> ·· which will usually reveal the root of the problem. Adding this diagnostic feature to aptitude would be a nice time saving enhancement. ·· ·· -- System Information: Debian Release: by Linux-Systeme APT prefers unstable APT policy: (990, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.15-nitro3 Locale: LANG=en_US, LC_CTYPE=en_US (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages aptitude depends on: ii apt [libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3 0.6.43.3 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii libc6 2.3.6-8 GNU C Library: Shared libraries ii libgcc1 1:4.1.0-1+b1 GCC support library ii libncursesw5 5.5-1.1 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libsigc++-2.0-0c2a 2.0.16-3 type-safe Signal Framework for C++ ii libstdc++6 4.1.0-1+b1 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 Versions of packages aptitude recommends: ii aptitude-doc-en [ap 0.4.1-1experimental1 English manual for aptitude, a ter
