Hello, My 2c is that what will likely happen is that glib upstream declares GRegex deprecated (since porting it to pcre2 will also be an ABI break AIUI). The soname will stay the same and downstreams will have to decide if they offer the GRegex symbols or not (or possibly runtime linking of pcre3 if it's available).
I think the likely way to get rid of glib dep on pcre3 is to start with a MBF against all GRegex consumers and ask them to move to pcre(2). (Once we no longer have any in-archive users of GRegex I bet some people will want to argue the case for keeping it because of out-of-archive software might still use it.) Someone will need to offer to do the MBF which likely also comes with taking on the work to write some kind of porting guide. Regards, Andreas Henriksson
