also asked the OSGeo group, and they informed me that this error was
resolved in the next version.

Can you confirm that the commits from that issue fixes the problem for
you as well?
Confirmed the issue in a bullseye VM and the fix when the changes from
PR 1226 are applied.
A stable update has been prepared to fix the issue in bullseye.
