Quack,

Interestingly we used 8.046.00-1, with 4.19.0-17 until 2021-10-21 and it worked fine. Then we upgraded to bullseye and the package was upgraded to 8.048.03-3. After rebooting the host never came back until we were able to reach the sever and debug today. It turns out modprobe was not able to locate the module and as you can see here: https://paste.debian.net/1216568/
It says: Status: This module version was INACTIVE for this kernel.
I had no idea a DKMS module could be installed, compiled properly but not enabled, that's really confusing. Anyway, we're now using the realtek driver included in the kernel along with firmware-realtek and it works fine.

Hope that helps.
