Thanks for reporting this! Other than waiting for upstream to respond to the issue reported there, it seems to me the next step is to test what breaks by reverting the identified git commit. I might find time for doing that at some point, but not at the moment - so it would be helpful if someone could take the time to test the effects of reverting that commit, on both a phone and a regular desktop environment. If tolerable for desktop use and crucial for phone use, then I am willing to carry such patch as an interim workaround, until we hear from upstream on this.
