DPKG_ROOT patches have now been accepted by glibc, pam, debhelper, dpkg and debianutils. We have a weekly job on salsa CI which creates a chroot the normal way as well as with DPKG_ROOT and confirms that both are bit-by-bit identical with our patches: https://salsa.debian.org/helmutg/dpkg-root-demo/-/pipelines base-files is among the 9 remaining source packages whose maintainers have not yet agreed to apply our changes.
