Oh I forgot: We even have /var/local (though that doesn't seem to be part of FHS)... which is IMO one more reason, why conceptually /etc’s …/local should really be in /etc and not in /usr.
btw: /var/local is still :staff owned ... while /usr/local is no longer. Is that on purpose?
