This bug doesn't affects only profanity-light. The problem also appears in profanity.
profanity is using the XMPP libstrophe. libstrophe should filter out forbidden sequences. The issue in upstream's projects is https://github.com/strophe/libstrophe/issues/170 -- Stefan
