Package: exim4 Version: 4.95~RC2-1 Severity: wishlist Hi,
even since the migration to git and salsa, the exim4 packaging repository still has the debian/-only layout that was common back in those dpatch/svn days. After one and a half decades have passed, times have changed, and I am surely not the only Debian Developer who has lost the familiarity with the debian/-only workflow and/or never grokked it in a git workflow. I must admit that I do local modification from the source package from the archive, ignoring what's in version control. Please consider moving the git repository to the more common 3.0 (quilt) format with full upstream sources format or add a debian/README.Source file to the current layout that can be used to understand what is necessary to build the package. This would make things vastly easier for the Security team and for other people to contribute. I remember trying to convert the repository to full source but failing. Maybe the bullseye release would be the correct point in time to try that again, possibly without the ambitioned goal to have past versions in the "new" format as well. Additionally, since dpkg can handle multiple upstream sources in a single Debian source package, maybe it's also time to pull eximdoc4 into the exim4 package proper. Thanks for your consideration! Greetings Marc
