Package: gnome-terminal Version: 2.14.1-1 Severity: important In one of the last couple of upgrades, gnome-terminal stopped working with UTF8 chars. It won't display any non-ASCII7 chars (but just a questionmark-like-char for each byte of a multibyte sequence), I can't input any non-ascii chars anymore (using the compose key, in either vim or on the command line) and I can't past any text containing non-ASCII7 chars. Other gnome apps (gedit, gvim, etc) work fine.
For example, if I echo an eacute (U+00E9, utf8 multibyte \0303\0251), gnome-terminal just echoes 2 times the "inverse-video question mark" (see attached screenshot). For 3-byte multibyte chars (like U+098B, a Bengali letter), three question mark symbols are displayed, and for 4-byte chars (like U+103A, old persian), two question marks are shown. The problem is independent of the font (tried several, the screenshot shows Bitstream Vera Mono). Everythign works fine in other X apps (including normal xterm), so it's not a problem with my locales.
