The way the translation is handled upstream has changed, it is know handled globally and not anymore by language by language. Therefore the way it is handled in Debian will change to, with a global source package that will build a package by language, just as for mozilla-firefox. So in short, yes it is possible, it will be done, but it is not in my hands anymore.
