Looks like upstream may prefer a different patch that reverses a quirk that was introduced to make the smbus visible. Without the quirk enabled, the temperature control is normal. Probably a better structural method will need to be found to avoid conflicts on the smbus before enabling it again. I'll update this bug again when the final patch becomes available.
