I'm not sure whether you followed the recent developments on the cdebconf and gtk+2.0 side, but we're slowly reaching a point where stuff should just work again. If you try daily builds (built against unstable), the problem should not appear. Depending on which build you grab, it might still be affected by #988951 (another cdebconf upload happened a few minutes, to avoid that issue entirely).
